TOS Communicator Prop Kit

In it's original appearance in the Star Trek pilot, "The Cage", the Communicator was a plexi-glass circuit-encrusted device.

In keeping with Gene Roddenberry's vision of practical and everyday future technology, changes were called for on the second pilot, "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Gene Roddenberry turned to his right-hand man, Robert Justman, to find a company to create a more realistic props inventory. Justman knew, having worked on the sci-fi series "Outer Limits", a perfect special-effects shop, "Projects Unlimited".

Constructed and designed by Projects' co-owner, Wah Ming Chang, and with input from fellow supervisor, Gene Warren, and of course Gene Roddenberry, the final inventory is believed to be two working Communicators (with stop-watch motorized morrie-pattern) and eight non-functional.

This prop kit is re-created by the same artisans who designed the Communicator for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - "Trials and Tribbleations". This is the Communicator used by "Lieutenant" Sisko and crew aboard the original Enterprise.
