Originally titled “Battleground: Earth”, but changed to avoid confusion with L. Ron Hubbard's novel, Battlefield Earth, Earth Final Conflict is the first of two Gene Roddenberry creations to be brought to life by his widow, Majel Barrett Roddenberry (the second being Andromeda). The series aired for five seasons between October 6 1997 and May 20 2002. In addition to her role as Executive Producer, along-side show-runner David Kirschner, on the show, Gene’s wife Majel appeared in some early episodes as the character Dr. Julianne Belman.
Set in early in the 21st century, the series was meant to explore issues that might develop if a civilized species of aliens were to co-inhabit our planet. In exchange for refuge on our planet, the “Taelons” offered the people of Earth access to their advanced technology. As a result, disease, war, and pollution were nearly eliminated. But that did not mean that conflict and was irradiated. Despite all the advances, there are some people who thought Earth’s new race was not as benevolent as it seemed. A resistance movement was organized. The ensuing struggle for power, control and the truth gave life to a series enjoyed by audiences around the world.
