In 1974 The Questor Tapes premiered as a television movie about an android (portrayed by Robert Foxworth) with incomplete programming tapes who is searching for his creator and his purpose.
Conceived and executive produced by Gene Roddenberry, The Questor Tapes did not move on as a television series but has gained cult status in the minds of Roddenberry and science fiction fans alike. Further, the Questor android was an inspiration for Gene’s later Star Trek: The Next Generation character, Data.
In January 2010, Roddenberry Productions announced a development deal with Imagine Television on a pilot for a new version of story, currently titled Questor. Rod Roddenberry, only son to Gene, will oversee the production along with producing partner Trevor Roth, Imagine Entertainment executives David Nevins & Robin Gurney, and show-runner Tim Minear.
