Star Trek Remastered

This weekend's Remastered episode is "Requiem for Methusaleh" - production number 76 which first aired on February 14, 1969.

Written by Jerome Bixby, who penned several other original-series episodes now considered classics, including "Mirror, Mirror" and "Day of the Dove". The fan-favorite Twilight Zone episode "It's a Good Life" was also his work, which inspired a "sequel" episode in the 2003 incarnation of that series, titled "It's Still a Good Life".

The story was repurposed by Bixby himself, who completed the new script just prior to his death in 1998. Produced as an independent feature film by his son, Emerson Bixby, it was released in 2007 as "The Man From Earth" starring Star Trek: Enterprise's John Billingsley (related story).

CastleOur friends at CBS Digital have provided a truly spectacular image for this episode: a digital matte painting of Flint's castle, created by ace artist Max Gabl from a castle design by Niel Wray. Click the image for a full-resolution version, and prepare to have your breath taken away.

Directed by Murray Golden, a versatile director of such other TV fare as The Flying Nun, Hawaii Five-O and the genre hit The Invaders. This was his only Trek episode.

Remastered Trivia

James Daly, who played Flint in the upcoming episode, was an oft-working character actor. His offspring also went on to success on television: name them and two shows on which they appeared.
